Purple Walrus Press Writers Alley. Poem by Mack Macateer.

We are fallen stars sleeping in a tropical world
Under a sky woven into flickering atmospheric patterns
Palm trees silhouetted against indigo violet clouds
Cars drive by on the highway above and next to us, their lights trailing off into the distance
We are the island youth
Vagabonds and pirates
We sleep like a pack of dogs, cuddling one another for warmth
A harmonica lazily drones in the darkness
A single coqui frog sings in response
Melting the night
We live to be free another day
