Parola Perspective : Double standard perpetuated by Republicans.

By Brooks Parola. Purple Walrus Press.

The double standard perpetuated by Republicans to great effect with American voters is absolutely mind boggling. No, I'm not talking about the sexist double standards Hillary was forced to endure, I'm talking about the double standard that says it's okay for the GOP to be totally dominated by the wealthy and corporate interests, but not okay if the Democrats do; which Democrats MUST do, if they hope to compete in the big monied world of American politics.
Yet time and again, the GOP is able to convince the American electorate that it's the Democrats who are the wealthy elitists, out of touch with the American people even as one Democrat after another implements policies directed at helping the middle and working classes, while Republicans have done nothing but implement policies that do nothing but destroy those classes. The latest being Obamacare, which sure enough, the Republicans are trying to destroy...to favor the wealthy, at the expense of the middle and working classes.

WICIR applauds passing of resolutions supporting immigrant communities & those playing key roles.

The immigrant rights organization WICIR (Washtenaw Coalition for Immigrant Rights) released a jubilant statement Wednesday, May 3, applauding the fact that the Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners passed a set of resolutions supporting immigrant rights in the county. The passing of these resolutions is extremely good news because it now means that county departments will not be allowed to ask people's immigration status, and as stated by WICIR, recognizes that immigration is solely an issue for Federal Government as opposed to a local issue. Further, according to WICIR, the resolution,"provides funding for immigrant communities targeted by raids and deportations that undermine the public health, safety, and well-being of everyone in our county."

According to WICIR, the resolutions will next go to the full board on May 17. The organization stated on Thursday, May 4, "A final victory is looking good."  This certainly would be an extremely necessary and positive victory for immigrant communities living in fear of being deported and separated from their families.

WICIR has asked people to send thank you's to the commissioners who voted yes and also urge them to,"Support full funding of the resolutions." The group also urged people to thank Washtenaw County Commissioner for District 9 Conan Smith for his leadership, and is asking people to mark their calendars for the May 17, 2017 Board of Commissioners final vote.

Day #1098 of Flint Water Crisis: Flint activist Melissa Mays.

Contributed to Purple Walrus Press by Melissa Mays.

Day #1098 of the #FlintWaterCrisis
Another win FOR Flint residents, BY Flint residents! As long as enough people are still picking up the necessary bottled water to keep their family safe, the state was not able to close down the pods as they had planned. Remember, they will not be able to close them if the lead levels are not dropping as they claim they are. So when you go to the Pod, please pick up a water test kit and follow all the instructions to test your water to see where it is at. We need to know the truth about our water. And keep our precious and only Safe Water option available to us. The people have the power here so we need to exercise it!

Farmers Market Downtown Ypsilanti opening day Tuesday.

Chilly temperatures and gusty winds did not put a damper on opening day for the Ypsilanti Downtown Farmers Market Tuesday afternoon. As of 4 pm, plenty of folks were checking out the wide variety of vendors and purchasing produce, meat, cheese, baked goods, jams, jellies, and plants, as well.

There is no doubt that the Downtown Farmers Market greatly enhances the character of Ypsilanti and adds texture to the already dynamic community.

Come on down and check out the fabulous Ypsilanti Farmers Market Downtown!

Time For Bad Boy Diplomacy With North Korea!

By Bob Resch. Purple Walrus Press.

Say it isn't so.  Is this really happening?  The mouse that roared has
done it again. North Korea test fired another ballistic missile on
Saturday April 29, shortly after Secretary of State Rex Tillerson
said: " Failure to curb Pyongyang's nuclear and ballistic missile
programs could lead to catastrophic consequences."

The sabre rattling, threats, sanctions, name calling by all parties
has reached a  point where cooler heads must prevail.

THE CLOCK IS TICKING, BUT, THERE MAYBE A WAY OUT OF THIS MESS AFTER ALL!!

In recent years, there's been one lone American that has been able to
communicate with Kim Jong Un.  One unofficial Good Will Ambassador
that has walked and talked with the leader of North Korea, broken
bread, joked, partied and actually had some Big Fun while performing
for Kim Jong Un.   We're not talking Superman, Batman, or Spider-Man.
It's not Dwayne Johnson or Vin Diesel..  Nope.  Try this on for size.
It's the former Detroit Pistons Bad Boy himself, DENNIS RODMAN!!   Kim
Jong Un idolizes Rodman's accomplishments as a professional basketball
player and his personality quirks.

Rodman's first trip to North Korea took place in February of 2013
performing with the Harlem Globetrotters and he's been back at least 6
times since.  He calls Kim Jong Un  a "friend for life" and says the
guy digs The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, 80's music as well as karaoke and
playing pool.  Sounds like a regular guy to me.

In an article for Du Jour Magazine written by Lindsay Silberman,
Rodman talks about his visit and conversations where Kim Jong Un said:
"I don't want to bomb anyone, but we keep our nuclear weapons
because we are such a small country and that's the only way we can
defend ourselves."  Rodman went on to say that Kim Jong just wants the
people and the government of America to know they don't hate Americans
and want to work with America.  North Korea just wants American to
abide by the agreement that was written a few years ago.

I don't know anything about this agreement, but I have one question.
Is there anyone in the Trump Administration that's aware of Rodman's
relationship with the North Korean leader?  I mean, c'mon man!!  Not
even Vice President Pence, or Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, or
Ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley can claim to have any
kind of personal connection with Kim Jong Un.

Meanwhile............the clock is ticking!!

The Trump Administration should move immediately to have Dennis Rodman
pay another visit to Kim Jong Un with one, and only one mission.   To
set up a meeting, preferably in Beijing with the Chinese leader Xi
Jinping, Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, North Korea's Kim Jong Un,
President of the United Nations Peter Thomson,  AND President Donald
Trump.

Donald Trump would have a perfect opportunity to be the great
negotiator that he claims to be.  And this HAS GOT TO BE DONE FACE TO
FACE.  Forget about all the go-betweens.  Reach out and work out a
deal with North Korea and convince them why they don't need nuclear
missiles because NOBODY has any interest or intentions of invading or
taking over North Korea.

Kim Jong Un is a desperate man.  He craves attention.  He's turned a
deaf ear to the world.  Meanwhile,  North Korea's quality of life is
shrinking right before his eyes.  His ego has blinded his common
sense. It just might take a good friend like Dennis Rodman to convince
him that peace is the only rational option.

I've sent an e-mail to WJR talk show host Frank Beckman suggesting
that he try to interview Rodman and see if there's a chance that
Rodman might be interested in contacting the North Korean leader and
setting up a summit conference as soon as possible.  No time to
delay.............

THE CLOCK IS TICKING!
