WRITERS ALLEY: Poem by Michael Melet

Imagine A World Without Music

Imagine A World Without Music

Dead and still . . .
Standing on a hill . . . no breeze, no wind.
Dining without tasting, candle light or wine.
Knowing someone but not loving,
Not touching, not caring.

Imagine A World Without Music

Meeting, not speaking.
Unpainted walls. A library without reading.
Soldiers dying, nobody caring.
Not knowing why.

Imagine A World Without Music

Empty concert halls.
Chorus robes hanging . . . just hanging.
Still band rooms, quiet, dusty bassoons.
Base drums not BOOMING.
Instruments sitting, not playing.
Ballet shoes, not dancing.
Batons not whirling.

Imagine A World Without Music

Stereos, hi-fis, victrolas, turntables not spinning.
C.D.’s, records, tapes, cassettes not turning.
iPods, Pandora, radios not playing.
MTV and VH1 . . . nothing.
Movie sound tracts talking, shooting, fucking.
